I was happy to attend University of South Carolina Aiken for a Focused Friday Stem group trip yesterday. I went with my school @Westside High School and represented our Westside High School NJROTC. I attended the engineering and mathmatics/computerscience workshop in which I gained some very insightful information and new knowledge from each speaker. I had a wonderful time and appreciate everything that they did for us. Thank you USCA!🤍

I cannot stress enough on the current situation of Embry-Riddle Prescott College of Engineering. Please read, share, comment, and react. The situation is dire and the College of Engineering here at ERAU Prescott is on the brinks of being destroyed. The "board of truestees" at the main campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University has completely bypassed the faculty handbook - effectively the faculties' contract - and improperly remade their own definition of "Tenure."To those who may not know, the Tenure status for a professor guarantees them their jobs until they retire. They are also guaranteed their academic freedom - meaning they are able to focus on whichever they find themselves most benefiting to the school. In the Prescott campus' case, the professors within the college of engineering have been focusing most of their effort on giving their students the best education they can possibly offer to prepare students for the real industry. The case of Tenure status being difficult to obtain was the same as any other schools, but not too many opposed that as it was at least somewhat fair for Tenure to be difficult to obtain. You could say that Tenure is a dream achievement for many professors who become professors.Recently, the "board of truestees" have passed a policy that effectively removes the Tenure status. No communication with the faculties beforehand, no votes, and no warnings. Details of how the "board of directors" completely ignored the official voting policy can be found on the Horizons linked down below (Student run press at the Prescott Campus). To give you a brief summary of this new "policy," it would force Tenure professors to be "reviewed" every 5 years on the money they bring in for "research." Perhaps tripling the cut for faculties' salaries compared to their own wasn't enough to keep their pockets heavy. This merely shows how ignorant the board of truestees is of the current focus and state of the Prescott campus, as well as the fact that the new Chancellor does not care too much about the well-being of our college. I guess Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is a business, after all. There are many professors who truly wished Embry-Riddle Prescott College of Engineering to be their final stop; many felt proud enough with this school to dedicate their last section of their careers into producing the best engineers that their skills and expertise could produce. As of now it seems to be clear that nearly 20% are confirmed to leave if the conflicts are not solved with the rest already seeking new jobs with a better future.I love this school and I don't think there are any schools that are as industry-prioritized in the world. The ignorant business board must think otherwise. The situation is dire and it is truly unfortunate to see the professors whose only goal and priority has been to prepare students for the industry as best as they can lifelessly preparing to depart.

Design and Design Technology education should not be mirroring carpentry in my opinion is a misconception by many educators and adminstrators who are out there denying excellent Design educators an opportunity to teach design in a way it should ought to be:Bringing Math and Physics to Life With a Model Car Derby is an educational initiative that involves students in designing, testing, and building model cars as a way to engage with complex mathematical and scientific conceptsThis approach is used at Casco Bay High School in Portland, Maine, where teachers stage a model car race as the culminating event for an integrated math and physics project. The benefits of this approach include:Hands-on learning: Students actively engage with the subject matter by designing and building their model cars, allowing them to better understand and retain information.Real-world application: The model car derby provides a context for students to apply their knowledge of math and physics to a practical problem, making the learning experience more meaningful and relevantCollaboration and competition: Students work in teams to develop their car designs, fostering collaboration and friendly competition among peersImproved understanding of STEM concepts: By participating in the model car derby, students gain a deeper understanding of higher-level STEM concepts, such as weight, friction, and momentumIncreased engagement and excitement: The model car derby creates an atmosphere of excitement and celebration, making learning more enjoyable and memorable for studentshttps://lnkd.in/ek_pFX6V

OK, this is pretty wild. Almost 800 impressions! I'm close to Elon Musk territory. Well, sort of..But more to the point - the fact that my post about mentoring got that many hits means I hit a nerve. At a minimum, folks out there agree that we must stuff our STEM pipeline to stay competitive in the world. If we are to feed the economic engine of this country (and the world), we need to help create more STEM leaders. But a more lean-in interpretation is that folks really agree with the mentoring thoughts. This is where all of us can help, regardless of our educational background. This is the classic opportunity to pay it forward, give back, whatever you call it. Just do it. The talk is cheap. But the action is so valuable. Mentoring doesn't have to be this huge mock-pitch student sponsor type of role (that I'm interested in); it can be as simple as showing a child how to tie shoelaces (ok, simplistic), or as useful as showing parents how in the world to navigate the crazy university admission process (where only university admissions offices profit crazily, but I digress...), or helping a newbie at work. The point is, give of yourself. Share your knowledge, wisdom, mistakes, and successes. All matter. I'll stop here. But if you're reading this, please do consider acting on this. Giving feels good. And the good pays off. For everyone. Have a great day. Babu

Enhancing math skills is foundational for numerous future job prospects, as it sharpens critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical abilities essential across various industries. While coding skills are valuable, they’re not universally required. Emphasizing math equips individuals with a versatile toolkit applicable to fields like finance, engineering, data analysis, and scientific research. Additionally, math proficiency fosters adaptability, enabling individuals to learn coding or other specialized skills as needed, ensuring readiness for evolving job demands. Well done Aston University.#AleksSubic #astonuniversity
