Descendant of pioneers who arrived before The Texas Revolution, he was born in Corpus Christi on June 3, 1953 and moved to Houston, Texas in 1957, where he graduated from Texas A&M College Station in 1974, and then moved to George West to manage the family ranch, raising cattle under his great-grandfather's brand.
