Branch Brook Park Roller Skating Center

Location: 7th Avenue and Clifton Avenue, Newark
Details: One of the largest facilities in the tri-state area, this center holds up to 1,000 people at each skate session, coming alive with music and activities as well as disco lighting. Special themed events such as Character, Throwback, Blackout or Caribbean Skate Night are held from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm every Wednesday. They also have open skate times scheduled throughout the week. Lessons for children and birthday parties are available at the space too.
Why I like it: Adult Skate Night is every Sunday night from 9:00 pm to 1:00 am, so get a sitter and leave the kids at home!

Deptford Skating Center

Location: 510 Deptford Avenue, Westville
Details: Bring the whole family to this 15,000-square-foot rink which can hold more than 350 skaters at one time. The kids can’t complain they’re bored at this facility, which houses an arcade, indoor jungle gym and inflatables, as well as a café and ice cream shop. Learn to Skate programs are offered on Thursday evenings or Saturday mornings. Kids will learn basic skating etiquette and participate in fun games at the end of each lesson. They’ll also gain admission to the skating session after the class. Check out their skate shop for new skates, bags and accessories.
Why I like it: Hammonton Skating Center is this rink’s sister facility, located 25 miles away but with all the same fun activities!

Florham Park Roller Rink

Location: 192 Ridgedale Avenue, Florham Park
Details: This classic old-school roller skating rink will definitely remind parents of their youth. Learn to skate with pay-as-you-go, come-as-you-can group lessons, which are held every Saturday morning. For one-on-one attention, they also offer private lessons. Want to throw a unique event? Host a Pajama Party at the rink. Partygoers wear their PJs on the first and third Friday of every month from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm.
Why I like it: If you have a large group or a special occasion, rent the entire rink out for an hour and a half-long party. This option starts at $350 for a group of 25 skaters, with skate rentals included.

Frenchtown Roller Rink

Location: 2995 State Highway 29, Frenchtown
Details: This is one rink that loves to party! Whether it’s the Spooky Skate Halloween party or a day of skating with Santa in December, there’s always something fun happening at this spot. Parents receive free admission when coming with children and the facility always has extra skating hours when it’s a school holiday. You can also host your event or party here and lessons are available upon request.

Holiday Skating & Fun Center

Details: Like its sister facility, Jackson Skating Center, the South Amboy roller rink has a large maplewood floor and a full service snack bar as well as a skate shop. An extensive Learn to Skate program has eight different skill levels, so all students will be placed appropriately. Classes are held Wednesday nights from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm for six weeks and include 30 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes of practice.
Why I like it: Host a birthday party here and all you’ll have to bring is the cake – South Amboy Arena takes care of the food, drinks, invites, balloons and paper goods.

Young’s Skating Center

Details: Young’s Skating Center has all the traditional roller rink offerings, such as public skate sessions, lessons, birthday parties, family nights. Plus, there’s also a roller hockey league! Boys and girls under the age of 12 can join the league and have ten weeks of instruction, scrimmaging and real games…culminating in playoffs and a championship match.
Why I like it: Kinderskate For Tots sessions, held every Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm, allow little kids to experience the joy of skating in a slower, safe environment without lots of big kids around.
