House Rules - Van Gogh Museum (2024)

We are dedicated to ensuring that all visitors enjoy every moment of their time at the museum. But we also need to take good care of our unique collection, and that’s why a selection of museum regulations apply.

Please note: due to the coronavirus safety measures, adjusted house rules apply. Find out more about the safety measures.

Cloakroom

The museum has a cloakroom where you can leave jackets, umbrellas, small bags up to A4 size and small rucksacks (daypacks and school backpacks). Jackets and handbags are allowed in the museum, but visitors are obliged to leave rucksacks, umbrellas and larger backpacks and items in the cloakroom. There are no lockers at the museum.

Luggage
Our cloakroom is unfortunately unable to accommodate large rucksacks and bags, (wheeled) suitcases and other luggage or large items such as prams and folding bikes.

If you have items with you larger than A4 size, you may be refused entrance to the museum. Please leave your baggage at your hotel or keep it in storage at one of the many luggage service points around the Museum square.

Prams, buggies, walking frames and wheelchairs
Prams and buggies are permitted in the museum, as are walking frames, wheelchairs and other mobility aids for disabled visitors.

Lost and Found

Lost something in the museum? We register found items on the website of iLost, a platform developed specifically to regain your lost items.

Photography and filming

Photography (without a flash or tripod) is only permitted at certain designated areas in the museum, such as in the Entrance Hall and by the so-called ‘selfie walls’.

To avoid causing nuisance to other visitors, photography of artworks in the museum galleries and exhibition spaces is not permitted. Please note that images of works in the museum collection are available to share and download from our website.

Photographs, videos and films may only be used for private, non-commercial purposes.

We would appreciate you sharing your photographs with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter:
