Start of the JANUS research project at the Ruhr-Universität-Bochum under the direction of Prof. Dr.-Ing. Helmut Balzert. The idea that software should be able to be developed at the push of a button, which was developed within the framework of the research project, became reality and was expanded into a 3-layer application generator.
1998
Foundation and market entry of o3s Objectoriented Software Solutions & Services GmbH & Co. KG
by Dr Christoph Niemann and Dr Frank Hofmann.
1999
First commercial version of the JANUS software factory. The later partners ARtem GmbH (now Funkwerk AG) and Personal & Informatik AG are acquired as the first customers.
2000
Change of name of o3s Objectoriented Software Solutions & Services GmbH & Co. KG to otris software AG.
2003
Market launch of the web-based ECM platform DOCUMENTS.
EASY Software AG distributes the product as EASY Portal via its more than 400 trade partners. Today, the product is used by more than 2000 EASY customers.
2005
Based on its own technology platform, otris software AG introduces two new products to the market.
otris contract – a software solution for contract management that structures contracts and relevant correspondence in contract files and makes them available depending on access rights. The contract portfolio and the associated responsibilities become transparent, and contract management processes become secure and efficient.
otris privacy (previously privacyGUARD) – software that supports the development and operation of a company-wide data protection management system. The work of the data protection officer is simplified by a predefined structure, made clearer and verifiably documented.
2010
KPMG certifies the archive component
otris software AG according to IDW-PS 880.
2012
otris software AG grows into a group of companies (bytemine, amicaldo, otrisPROJECTS).
2013
Based on its own technology platform, otris software AG introduces a new product for investment management and investment controlling: otris corporate – the web-based software solution creates transparency within investment structures. The clear presentation and easy access to important documents, master data and key figures simplify the work in compliance management.
2014
Introduction of the compliance software solution otris compliance.The software, which is based on the company’s own technology platform, structures and documents the company-wide compliance organisation and securely guides documents and guidelines through the company.
2016
otris develops a mobile platform: the otris app. Download the app to your smartphone, scan the QR code, transfer processes and documents – that’s how easy the otris app myFavorites works.
2018
20 years of successful development – economically and technically. Sustainability, solidity and innovation have been firmly anchored in the corporate culture of otris software AG since its foundation 20 years ago.
2019
Independent into the future. With the repurchase of all otris shares from the holdings of Easy Software AG, otris will become 100 percent independent in August 2019. A big step that was fully financed by the founders and employees. The new independence opens up new opportunities in the OEM business.

They have been working together for over twenty years: Dr Frank Hofmann and Dr Christoph Niemann, the dual leadership of otris software AG. After their academic careers at the Ruhr University in Bochum, they founded a successful company together with some of their students at the time.
Dr.-Ing. Frank Hofmann
is co-founder and board member of otris software AG. He is responsible for the company’s Enterprise Content Management division as well as for sales and marketing. Dr Hofmann studied electrical engineering and information technology at the Ruhr University in Bochum. He also completed an integrated study abroad programme at the National School of Electronics and Radio Engineering in Bordeaux (ENSERB), France. During his PhD, he pioneered the realisation of one of the first tools for model-driven software development. Since then, he has been considered an expert in the field of ergonomically designed user interfaces and the support of enterprise-wide processes through software solutions.
Dr.-Ing. Christoph Niemann
is co-founder and board member of otris software AG. He is responsible for the JANUS business division as well as for the company’s finances and human resources. Dr Niemann studied electrical engineering and information technology at the Ruhr University in Bochum. During his doctorate at the renowned Chair of Software Engineering under Professor Dr. Helmut Balzert, he pioneered the realisation of one of the first tools for model-driven software development, which he subsequently brought to product maturity and has continued to develop ever since.
